Dental anxiety? You’re in the right place.
If the thought of a dental appointment makes your chest tight, you’re not weak, and you’re not alone. Roughly one in five adults avoids the dentist because of fear. Many of them are walking around right now with a tooth that hurts, hoping it goes away.
We built this practice for you.
Request an AppointmentIt usually isn’t about the drill.
When patients finally tell us what they’re afraid of, it’s rarely the thing people assume. It’s:
The memory. A dentist who hurt you and kept going. A visit as a child that nobody explained. You’ve carried it for years.
The shame. You know your teeth aren’t what they should be. You’re afraid someone will look in your mouth and think less of you.
The loss of control. Lying back, mouth open, unable to speak, not knowing what’s coming next.
The lecture. You already know you should have come sooner. You don’t need to hear it again.
Whatever yours is, you don’t have to explain it to be taken seriously here.
What’s different about this office
We say no judgment and we mean it. Dr. DeVuyst and every member of our team have spent years working with frightened patients. There is nothing you can show us that we haven’t seen. No one here will sigh, shake their head, or make you feel like a problem.
You’re in control. We explain everything before it happens. You can stop us at any time — we’ll agree on a hand signal before we begin. Nothing starts until you say so.
We don’t rush. Anxious patients need more time, so we schedule more time. Our sedation appointments happen on Fridays, when the office is closed to everyone else.
You’ll only ever see one dentist. Dr. DeVuyst is the only dentist here. The person you meet at your consultation is the person who treats you — every visit, for as long as you’re our patient.
Sedation is here if you want it. For many fearful patients, oral conscious sedation is what finally makes care possible: you take a pill, you relax, and you remember little afterward. It isn’t required — some patients find that a calm team and a private room are enough. We’ll figure out together what you need.

The first visit is just a conversation.
Your first visit is an exam and a conversation — no cleaning, no drilling. That’s true for every new patient here, not just nervous ones.
You’ll meet Dr. DeVuyst and his assistants in a treatment room — but the chair stays upright, nothing is set out, and no one touches anything until you say so. You talk. They listen. If you’re ready, Dr. DeVuyst will take a look, but only if you’re ready.
Then, either that day or another that suits you, you’ll sit down with Jenny, our Patient Care Coordinator, in her office — a comfortable room nowhere near where treatment happens — to go over the plan, what it costs, and any questions you have. You’ll leave with a written estimate. Nothing gets scheduled until you decide.
Frequently asked questions
What if I panic and need to stop?
Then we stop. Before anything begins, we agree on a signal. Raise your hand and everything pauses — no questions, no frustration.
What if I’m embarrassed about my teeth?
Most of our sedation patients were. It’s the single most common thing people tell us at their consultation. We’ve seen every situation, and our only reaction is to help.
Do I have to have sedation?
No. It’s an option, not a requirement. Some patients need it for the big work and never again. Some never need it at all once they trust the team.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes. A friend or family member is welcome at your consultation. For sedation appointments, you’ll need a trusted adult to drive you anyway.
What if it’s been so long that I need a lot of work?
That’s what Private Fridays are for. Under sedation, years of needed care can often be completed in a single visit.
Whenever you’re ready
You don’t have to book an appointment today. You don’t even have to call. Send us a note and tell us as little or as much as you want, and we’ll reach out in whatever way feels easiest for you.
